An Emmy Award Winner Teaching The Ways of Animated Story Telling
I was born and raised in Detroit, Mi. Left town after college to move to Boston to get closer to NYC and a career in comics. I had one focus since childhood and that was to become a comic book artist and I did just that.
I joined Dick Giordano's New Talent workshop and worked my way to an assignment after 6 months or so taking classes directly from Giordano. I was one of 15 peeps attending it, and became the 3rd out of that group to graduate with an actual pro assignment.
First, none of the art training I received in school or college, prepared me for what my heart wanted. I learned how to draw comics pretty much on my own and had to trust in myself that I was good enough without having a lot of faith in anyone around me.
Getting and completing that first assignment. It was the greatest feeling I had ever felt as an adult, fulfilling a lifelong dream since childhood. The second most memorable moment... Winning the Emmy the second time around after being nominated for my first and losing BIG time.
First and foremost--this is NOT a hobby, it is a profession and, I am deadly serious here, it is a natural calling to be an artist. A hobby means you do it when you have the time, but to be an artist is a full-time, heartfelt drive that will take everything in your heart and soul to do ALL the time, NOT when you have time to spare. You make the time, finish, then repeat. So if you want to do this you need three things, talent, commitment, and passion.

Batman
Dr. Doom
I don't have one favorite, but the story and art of this inspired me tremendously into becoming an artist: Batman# 251--"The Joker's Five-Way Revenge"
Again, I have more than one fav movie but this one is always at the top: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
Again from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: "When you have to shoot, Shoot. Don't talk."
